I initially thought that this was a broken hand-axe, probably late Paleolithic, however when I started to hold and manipulate it, my fingers, thumb and palm fell naturally to the knapped depressions and ridges. It is a knife. Holding the knife gives me an immediate mental connection, not only to the highly skilled technician who made it, but also to those men and women who used it - both left and right handed ! - it is an astonishingly sophisticated tool manufactured to serve a thriving community.
