Sea Kale at Shingle Street, Suffolk
It would be hard to imagine a more inhospitable habitat for plant life than Shingle Street, a large beach of shifting shingle and gravel on the Suffolk coast. Exposed to salt-laden gales off the North Sea in winter, and baking, dessicating heat in summer, the sea kale not only survives, but positively thrives in these harsh conditions.
