The landmark building has being torn down as part of a demolition programme to make way for a 36,000 sq m world-class research and development facility for the medical and healthcare industries.

Regional development agency Advantage West Midlands has a 95 year lease on the site. Advantage West Midlands Chief Executive John Edwards said: "The demolition of Pebble Mill is the first step on the way to creating what will undoubtedly be a world-class facility, building on Birmingham's excellence in medical technologies.

"This marks the end of one era with a building that has defined Birmingham in many ways, but also marks the dawning of a new high-technology era for the city."

Goodbye Pebble Mill

The closure of 麻豆社 Pebble Mill marked the end of production at the famous Birmingham site for over thirty years.

Pebble Mill has staged many popular shows over the years, most famously Pebble Mill at One, a 45 minute lunchtime chat show which ran from 1973 to 1986. presented from the foyer of the 麻豆社's Pebble Mill studios in Birmingham

The studios have also produced a host of popular programmes including the popular TV dramas Dalziel and Pascoe and Dangerfield, as well as the long-running radio soap The Archers and the recent daytime soap opera Doctors starring Christopher Timothy.

Set in the heart of the city centre, 麻豆社 Birmingham's state of the art new home at The Mailbox is part of a development which houses hotels, shops, restaurants and bars in a canal-side setting, with a public walkway running through it.

The move to the city centre reinforces the 麻豆社鈥檚 commitment to national, regional and local programme-making in the West Midlands and will ensure that 麻豆社 Birmingham is best placed to meet the changing demands of broadcasting and technology in the future.
