Successful performers will be invited to a second audition at the Priory Recording Studio in Sutton Coldfield.

Ten performers will then get the chance to showcase their talent in the final as they battle it out for the chance to spend a day cutting tracks at a recording studio.

On trial

Each Cop Idol 'IV' competitor will stand in a dock 'accused' of possessing singing talent before performing to a panel of showbiz judges, who will speak the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

Previous years' judges include Musical Youth star Michael Grant, who shot to fame in the 80s, and who now owns his own record label, and has recently remixed Top 10 hits for artists including Lamar, Usher and Kelly Rowland.

All money raised from the final show will be donated to the charity Cancer Research UK, which is dedicated to finding new ways of preventing, detecting and treating cancer.
