麻豆社 News, coverage of the death of Charlie Kirk, September 2025

Summary of complaint

We have received complaints from people who felt that there was too much coverage of the death of Charlie Kirk on 麻豆社 News.

Our response

Events to cover in the news, and the prominence afforded to them, form part of the legitimate expression of the editorial judgement of journalists and editors - and so do not usually raise the prospect of a breach of standards.

This is in accordance with our commitment to due impartiality.

Charlie Kirk was one of the most prominent conservative activists and media personalities in the United States. He was a trusted ally of President Donald Trump and many credit his influence, particularly with young people, as a key reason behind President Trump鈥檚 victory in last year鈥檚 election.

It was important to explore the implications his killing could have at an already highly volatile and divisive time in American politics.

We continued to dedicate significant time to reporting and analysis of the other main stories of the day including Sir Keir Starmer鈥檚 sacking of Lord Mandelson as the UK鈥檚 ambassador to the US and the latest developments in the Israel-Gaza war.

We believe our coverage has been proportionate and appropriate.
