Complaint

A viewer complained that an item on new methods of treatment for multiple sclerosis (MS) may have conveyed the erroneous impression that a cure for the condition had been found.  The ECU considered the complaint in the light of the 麻豆社鈥檚 editorial standards of accuracy.

Outcome

The occasion for the item was the announcement that the drug cladribine was to be made more widely available to those with MS, potentially replacing frequent hospital visits with a self-administered tablet to be taken on 20 occasions over four years.  This warranted the presenter鈥檚 reference to a transformation in the way MS patients might be treated, but there was no suggestion in the item that cladribine represented a cure, and consequently no departure from accuracy.
