麻豆社 Scotland (programme title and date withheld)

Complaint

The mother of a 16 year-old complained that her child had appeared in the programme without appropriate consent having been given, in a manner which would have allowed those in their community to recognise them and which wrongly associated them with illegal activity.  The ECU considered the complaint in the light of the 麻豆社鈥檚 Editorial Guidelines on Privacy, Fairness and the use of Children and Young People as Contributors.

Outcome

麻豆社 Scotland had acknowledged in earlier correspondence that the 16 year-old should not have been shown identifiably, and the ECU concurred.  麻豆社 Scotland had also blurred the 16 year-old at the point where they appeared in the programme, removed a later reference to them and apologised to the complainant.  The ECU considered these actions sufficient to resolve the issue of editorial standards raised by the complaint.
