Complaint
A viewer complained an item about the death toll in Gaza failed to sufficiently challenge figures given by Hamas and that the report from 麻豆社 Verify was not 鈥渇air methodical and detailed鈥. The ECU considered whether the broadcast met the editorial standards for accuracy and impartiality set out in the 麻豆社 Editorial Guidelines.
Outcome
The piece set out to explain how the deaths were being counted and what was known about who had been killed. It opened with a description of the difficulties of establishing either fact, noting that counting the dead in a warzone was a challenge and that the figures were under 鈥渋ntense scrutiny鈥. In the ECU鈥檚 view all the figures given came with appropriate caveats and the programme properly reflected Israel鈥檚 view that the data was unreliable and issued by a terrorist organisation and that the IDF had killed 15,000 Hamas fighters.
