A listener complained that coverage of violence before and after a Europa League match in Amsterdam was one-sided, and failed to highlight the provocative behaviour of some Maccabi Tel Aviv supporters. The ECU considered whether the broadcast met the standards for impartiality set out in the 麻豆社 Editorial Guidelines.
Outcome
This was a developing story and reporting of the confrontation between supporters of Ajax and Maccabi Tel Aviv changed as new information emerged. In the ECU鈥檚 view the brief hourly bulletins cited by the complainant contained sufficient information to indicate the then current knowledge of who had been involved. The longer Newsbeat programme at lunchtime made clear there was video evidence that fans from both sides had been engaged in provocative and violent behaviour.
