Band Of The MonthYou are in: Coventry and Warwickshire > Entertainment > Music > Band Of The Month > Getting dirty ![]() Wes Finch and the Dirty Band Getting dirtyOur first Band of the Month for 2009 is Coventry and Birmingham鈥檚 Wes Finch and the Dirty Band. Wes Finch and the Dirty Band:Wes Finch - Vocals, Guitar Joe Carvell - Bass George Vaughan - Drums, Vocals Andy Whitehead - Guitar Matt Lakey - Banjo Lucy Anne Sale - Djembe, Percussion, Flute, Vocals, Bryan Lea - Harmonicas We first saw the Dirty Band at last year鈥檚 Godiva Festival 鈥 although their frontman, Wes Finch, is no stranger to 麻豆社 Coventry & Warwickshire, having previously played live on Anita Miah鈥檚 show with Lee Glasson. The eight-piece band, who released their debut album - Now, Look Here, It's The Dirty Band See? 鈥 in June 2008 - are also part of the Under the Radar concerts at the Warwick Arts Centre. Last year, their 鈥渂est band friends鈥 鈥 The Bellows - teamed up with Lewis Garland and The Kett Rebellion for a concert in the studio. On Friday, 23 January, the Dirty Band will playing there with Honeytrap. Being the front man to such a large group of musicians, we asked Wes how he met the members of the Dirty Band: 鈥淎ndy, Lucy and I used to all work at the Tin Angel on Spon Street and constantly saw each other out at gigs and open mic nights. Lucy used to run a night at the Hope and Anchor where I played solo a few times. ![]() Playing Godiva Festival 2008 - Photo: Blikmo 鈥淏ryan, Matt and Joe I all met when they played at various nights around the city in their other guises/bands. George is a long time friend of Andy and has played with him in many bands and suggested introducing him into the mix in the very beginning.鈥 Like their friends The Bellows, their music is roots acoustic - with twanging guitars and banjos, surrounded by a strong back beat of drums and vocal harmonies - which, could actually be described as a gritty, dirty sound! But is that how they got their name? Wes continued: 鈥淚 suppose the dirty adjective has a couple of meanings. We admit we're not all that clean cut and airbrushed visually and similarly our sound, we like to think, it is us being honest, without makeup or affectation. 鈥淲e're not out to win any beauty contests or be the aural equivalent of honey, but we are up for setting up wherever, having fun and doing our thing. The music is real, grime and all - Y'know how wicked came to mean really good? Well, filthy and dirty have come to be terms of high praise with us now!鈥 To find out more about Wes Finch and the Dirty Band, visit their MySpace page by clicking on the link below: The 麻豆社 is not responsible for the content of external websites How to get featured?麻豆社 Coventry & Warwickshire's Band of the Month feature aims to showcase the best local musical talent.
