Plymouth once again hosted the annual British Firework Championships, and miraculously, the rain stayed away long enough for the event to take place in clear skies. Six spectacular displays were held as the UK's top firework display companies did battle for the title of 2008 British Champions. The event took place on 12 and 13 August 2008 with three displays each night beginning once darkness fell at around 9.30pm.听 Each entrant was required to produce a 10 minute display designed to show off their technical and artistic expertise. The winner was the final display by Welsh firm Pendragon Fireworks. Judges said it won because it had the best colour, co-ordination and rhythm. ![]() One of the 2nd night displays (Matt Trethewey) The full line up of finalists was: Tuesday 12 August Wednesday 13 August Plymouth's waterfront has played host to the competition since it was first held 12 years ago and it's become one of the highlights of the summer calendar.
