Get ready for the 鶹 SSO’s latest collaboration with Sir James MacMillan and his award-winning community festival, The Cumnock Tryst. Opening with the instantly recognisable sparkle of Mozart’s Eine kleine Nachtmusik, this concert features MacMillan’s Saxophone Concerto, inspired by Scottish traditional music archetypes and performed by Jess Gillam, “one of Britain’s most virtuosic instrumentalists” (The Times). And to finish, MacMillan’s sonorous, song-like love letter to his Ayrshire hometown, written for euphonium and strings in tribute to his grandfather, who played in the local colliery bands, and for Welsh virtuoso David Childs.
