The concert opens with Hammered Out by Mark-Anthony Turnage, a vibrant, high-energy work infused with funk and jazz influences, known for its driving rhythms and bold brass writing. This is followed by Alma鈥檚 Songs Without Words by Roxanna Panufnik, a deeply expressive piece inspired by the touching poetry of Alma Mahler, blending lyricism with emotional depth in a haunting orchestral setting.
The programme concludes with Gershwin鈥檚 Porgy and Bess: A Symphonic Picture, arranged by Robert Russell Bennett. This dazzling medley brings the beloved opera to life through rich orchestration and iconic melodies like 鈥淪ummertime鈥 and 鈥淚t Ain鈥檛 Necessarily So,鈥 capturing the soul of American music with jazz-inflected flair.
