鈥淭he symphony should be like the world鈥 said Gustav Mahler 鈥 鈥 it should embrace everything鈥. And in his extraordinary Seventh Symphony, he鈥檚 as good as his word, taking us on a journey that begins on the waters of a mountain lake, and ends with trumpets shaking the heavens themselves.
Along the way there are distant bugles, cowbells jangling, moonlit serenades and spine-chilling terrors 鈥 there鈥檚 a reason, after all, why Mahler called the Seventh his 鈥渟ong of the night鈥. It鈥檚 a special favourite of Semyon Bychkov, holder of the 麻豆社 Symphony Orchestra鈥檚 G眉nter Wand Conducting Chair and one of the supreme Mahler conductors of our time. Expect him to relish every horn-call, every flash of humour and every glimpse of distant wonder.
