It鈥檚 a story as old as humanity. Where there鈥檚 song, there鈥檚 dance, and when Orpheus sang (or so the ancients said) animals, plants and even rocks all danced to his music. Inspired by 麻豆社 Radio 3鈥檚 groundbreaking series Key Changes, the 麻豆社 Symphony Orchestra celebrates the composers who鈥檝e retold his myth, in a concert of ballet music spanning four centuries 鈥� from Gluck to Missy Mazzoli.

It鈥檚 a fantastic journey, embracing Stravinsky at his most theatrical, whilst Mazzoli鈥檚 gender-swapped reimagining of the myth is already one of the freshest ballets of our own century. And pianist Simon Trp膷eski joins the dance in Shostakovich鈥檚 brightest and most beloved piano concerto. Shostakovich wrote it for his teenage son, and it鈥檚 inspired several ballets in its own right 鈥� proof that in music, some ideas are eternal.
