| The
麻豆社 Learning Centre will soon be holding a Family History Festival on Saturday
December 4.
It will give
you the chance to find out more about genealogy generally, or even discover
your own family's past - you just never know, you may be related to royalty
or even a well known criminal!
麻豆社 Gloucestershire's
CSV Action Desk Producer Martin Evans is keen to learn more about his
ancestors. He said: 聯It will be interesting to see what my great
great grandfather did for a living, and if there is anything from my family's
past which has shaped my future, my likes and my dislikes聰
Martin is
also keen to see how far his family's roots stretched back in the county.
He said, 聯I know my nan was born in King Standley, which is in Stroud,
and I聮m pretty sure her parents were born there as well from all
the stories she used to tell me, so it聮s at least two centuries but
it could be even more. It would be fascinating to discover what brought
the family to Gloucestershire in the first place聰
Today Martin
will start the arduous task of trawling through birth, death and marriage
certificates, as well as censuses and record libraries in a bid to get
the family tree started.
聯It聮s
going to be an exiting journey, and a great learning curve," he saud.
"I聮ve never done anything like this before so it should be interesting.
Luckily my Mum is an organised person, and she has loads of documents
to help me get started聰
Martin's
journey into the past will also take him via The Gloucestershire Family
History Society at Spreadeagle Court in Gloucester and also the Records
Office.
You聮ll
be able to hear his adventures all week leading up to the Family History
Festival on Mark Cummings Lunchtime Show, on 麻豆社 Radio Gloucestershire
from 29th November.
