Election 2008

Lorraine Marson

Lorraine Marson.

Lorraine Marson

Lorraine Marson is a candidate standing for election in the South East district.

I am representing the South East as a candidate as my home is in St. Andrews. My local family upbringing was on a farm in St. Saviours which carried with it my family history from 1530.Ìý

I am married with two teenage children and I am 48 years old. I have lived in London and Paris, where I worked for British Airways.

I have followed Guernsey politics. I marched against the Mass Burn Incinerator and joined the Waste action Group to encourage more recycling. I marched against the redevelopment of Belle Greve Bay.

Sustainability would be my focus for the islands future.ÌýUnder the present Tax strategy the 'capped' population decision will come back to the States to be overturned.

I would be against major increases in population; increased population will weigh heavily on the infrastructure of the island, quality of life, culture and heritage.ÌýThe Tax strategy needs to be modified to move to a balanced future.

We need to make best use of our resources, protect our Farming and Horticulture industry. We must look to becoming more self-sufficient with rising oil prices and food shortages.

We have outstanding infrastructure to build, two crumbling secondary schools.ÌýThe Tax strategy demands up-skilling of our labour force and we need to rebuild the schools and the College of Further Education.

With a probable recession looming in the western world we are going to have to modify the current business plan.ÌýI would like to see a more balanced plan that sees the Corporate Sector pay an increased share and not just the ordinary hard working public. Zero Ten should be exactly that – not Zero Two which the current package has become.ÌýWe need to widen the sources of revenue that the finance sector is going to pay under the current guidelines.
