Originally based on the Spitfire Mk5 the Seafire 17 flown by John Beattie in the 2008 Battle of Britain Air Display over the Little Russell is actually a post war model.

John told us that during the war they "navalised the Spitfire into the L3 and L5" Seafires capable of landing on aircraft carriers and that the 17 model he flies came towards the end of the Spitfire line.

Describing it as "a delight" to fly he said that the restored Seafire is "like driving a classic car... it has its own idiosyncrasies" so it takes an effort to keep going but it is worth it.

He considers it "a thrill and a privilege to fly".
