The Gokstad ship
A land burial at Gokstad in southern Norway in which a 60-year-old male, believed to have held high status, had been buried with numerous goods including beds, gaming boards, sacrificed animals, and 3 smaller boats. The well preserved parts and fastenings of the ship made an important contribution to our understanding of Viking boat building traditions. Return to Trail
The Shtandart
The Shtandart was a Russian frigate of Tsar Peter the Great. Originally launched in 1703. A project to reconstruct the ship began in 1994 by Capt Vladimir Martous in St Petersburg. The new ship was launched in 1999 and serves as successful sail training ship. Return to Trail
