Cafés
The humble ‘greasy spoon’ was once a common
sight across the West Midlands.
These roadside cafés, with their
traditional British home-cooked fare, have for years offered a welcome relief
for countless hungry truckers.
But as weary owners retire and fast food
chains expand, the independent truck stop is slowly disappearing from the map.
Roland Rivron hitches a lift to some of the last remaining few to find out
if it really is the end of the road for the transport café. Pagan
power To most of us Druids conjure up images of a mysterious, religious
sect wearing strange robes and conducting archaic ceremonies out in the open air. | | Pagan power - Chris Habgood in ceremonial dress |
Chris Habgood is a 21st century pagan. There are around 10,000
practising Druids in Britain, with orders spread around the country. The
lineage of the Druid spiritual tradition can be traced back many thousands of
years. The origins of the Druids were as important religious figures among
the Celts, who came to Britain in 1500 BC. | DRUIDS | |
The name Druid is connected with the Celtic word for 'oak tree'. Druidry
fosters the love of the land, earth, and the wild:
* Love of Peace
* Love of Beauty
* Love of Justice * Love of Story and Myth
* Love of History/Ancestors
* Love of Trees
* Love
of Stones
* Love of Truth - wisdom
* Love of Animals *
Love of the Body * Love of the Sun, Moon and Stars
* Love of Life |
In this pre-Christian era, Druids acted as judges, doctors, diviners,
sages, mystics, and clerical scholars. They were considered amongst the
wisest and most respected members of Celtic society. Today Chris Hapgood
is one of the countryÂ’s leading male witches. He performs ancient rituals
at sacred sites including Stonehenge and Avebury. But the 51-year-old has
a big gap in his life – he has yet to find a high priestess. Inside
Out joins Chris as he uses modern and ancient techniques to seek out his perfect
match. Along the way Inside Out explores a faith viewed by many with distrust
and fear. Ìý Ìý |
