How do I sign in to �鶹�� iPlayer on my computer, mobile or tablet?

On the website

Click on Sign In at the top left, next to the �鶹�� logo
Enter your email address. This will be the email that was used when you created your account.
Enter your password. If you've forgotten your password, you can choose to sign in via a link sent to your email address, or you can select 'More help signing in' for further help.

On the mobile or tablet app

You'll be asked to sign in as soon as you open the app. So first, tap Sign in.
Type in the email address and password you set up for your �鶹�� account.
Tap Sign in. You're good to go!

What if I don't have a �鶹�� account?

You can register a �鶹�� account now. It’s quick, free and easy and means you can sign in across the �鶹��, add programmes for later, get personalised recommendations and pick up watching programmes where you left off across your devices.

In order to be able to sign in, there are certain security standards that need to be met by your TV. Software and technology vary greatly across different TVs, models and manufacturers and not all TVs use the same standards.

Because of this, sign-in isn't available on all TVs.

Without signing in, you won't be able to play programmes or choose to benefit from the personalised features that �鶹�� iPlayer offers including adding programmes for later, getting personalised recommendations, and picking up where you left off across your devices.

We need to understand more about what people are watching to ensure we are providing something for everyone. Up until now we could only tell how many people used �鶹�� iPlayer, but having more data like age, gender and location will ensure we’re better serving all our audience. If you're being asked to sign in to your �鶹�� account each time you use �鶹�� iPlayer, it's most likely because cookies are switched off on your browser or device.

Like most other websites, we use cookies - small text files stored on your computer, mobile or tablet - to recognise that you’re signed in and remember your preferences. If you turn off cookies on your browser or on your mobile or tablet:

Before you start.

Make sure you've got:

A �鶹�� account. You can use your existing one. If you don’t already have one you can register by going to bbc.com/register.
A second device such as a mobile, tablet, computer or laptop*. This is where you'll enter the code shown on your TV.

*No second device, such as a phone, tablet or computer? Have a look here.

On your mobile, tablet or computer, please sign in to your �鶹�� account on the website to make sure that you know your sign-in details. If you've forgotten your password, you can reset it here: I've forgotten my password.

Ready? Here's what you need to do.

Open the �鶹�� iPlayer application on your TV. You'll see the sign in screen. If you need to change the language, select the speech bubble on the top right.

Select the option you need. The first option is to sign in using the website on your mobile or computer.

If you're already signed in to an account and want to add another user, head back to the Select who's watching page by selecting the name on the top left of the menu. On the 'Select who's watching' page, choose Add adult.

You'll see a screen showing a URL and a six digit code to enter on our website. There's also the option to use the QR code to take you to the correct page:

On your mobile, tablet or computer, open your internet browser and go to www.bbc.com/tvcode. You'll now see a screen asking you to enter the code shown on your TV. Enter the activation code that appears on your TV screen, then select Sign in on your TV.
You'll see a screen asking you to confirm your account details. Enter your email address and password and select Sign in. You'll see confirmation that the details have been accepted.
Wait a few seconds for your TV to catch up, and then you're done! You're now signed in on your TV.

Signing in using your TV remote

When you choose this option, you will be asked to enter your email address and �鶹�� account password.

Here are some things to be aware of:

If you don’t use the activation code, it will expire after 60 minutes so you'll need to start again.
Only one person can use the activation code. If two or more people try to use the same code, it won’t work.
If you would like to add another adult to iPlayer on the TV, they will need to sign into their own �鶹�� account on the website, then follow the TV steps.
If the website advises that you're signed in, but your TV doesn't change, or it asks you to sign in again, please run through our TV troubleshooting steps as these may help.
Sign-in isn't available on all TVs. That's because of variations in software and technology. We've got more information about this in the Why isn't sign-in available on my TV? page.
If you want to sign in on more than one TV, follow the same procedure with those devices. You'll be given a code linked to that particular device. You can sign in to as many TV devices as you need.

What if I don't have a mobile, tablet or computer?

If you are required to sign in to �鶹�� iPlayer on your TV and you don't have a second device, it is still possible to use �鶹�� iPlayer on your TV. You'll need to have access to a telephone (this doesn't need to be a smartphone - a regular telephone will do). Minicom facilities are also available if you have a speech or hearing impairment.

Follow these steps:

Open the �鶹�� iPlayer application on your TV.
On the sign in-screen, select 'Sign in using your TV remote.'
On the bottom right, select 'Use a telephone or minicom'
Follow the on-screen instructions to get access to �鶹�� iPlayer.

Please note this option is only available for connected TV devices.

Some TVs may sign users out of their �鶹�� account which means they have to sign in again each time they use �鶹�� iPlayer. This appears to be caused by a device storage problem on the TV, which clears out the stored sign-in data automatically.

If you're experiencing this behaviour, please check to see if a firmware/system update is available for your TV. You can usually check for updates in the Settings menu of your TV, usually under 'system,' 'update' or 'firmware.' If you're unsure, contact your TV's manufacturer or check the TV manual.

�鶹�� iPlayer uses cookies to help give you a personalised experience. Cookies help us remember the settings you choose across the �鶹�� website, such as your sign-in details and whether or not you've set up a Parental Guidance Lock.

Click on your name or username at the top of the page (next to the �鶹�� logo)
Click Continue to settings and then confirm your sign-in details
Go to the Privacy and cookies tab
Scroll down and click on Change your cookie settings here

If you opt out of �鶹�� cookies, here’s what will be affected…

Staying signed in
We won't be able to remember that you've signed in, or what your sign in details are. That means you'll have to sign back in to your �鶹�� account each time you access the �鶹�� website.
Your Added list
This won’t work if you’re not signed in. If you are signed in, your Added list will work but recent additions may not appear immediately.
Your location
We may not be able to remember the location you've set. This means you might not see the programme you're expecting when you watch live streams, such as your local news, and the TV schedules won't show the schedule for your area.
Parental Guidance Lock
You won’t be able to set the Parental Guidance Lock and a pop-up will appear on every programme with a Guidance label asking you to confirm you’re 16 or over.
TV licence setting
We won't be able to remember that you've said you have a TV licence, so you'll be asked every time you watch a programme on �鶹�� iPlayer. (Please remember that you must have a TV licence to watch on-demand programmes as well as live streams.)

Can I have more than one user signed in on my TV?

Yes, on most TVs you can. Each user will need to have their own �鶹�� account registered under their own email address.

To sign in an additional user:

Open the �鶹�� iPlayer TV app. If you're already in the app and using iPlayer, select your name on the top left to be taken to the account screen
On the 'Select who's watching' screen, select Add child or Add adult
A new adult user will have to sign in at bbc.com/tvcode using their own �鶹�� account details.
Once the new user has signed in using their own �鶹�� account login info, they can enter the code shown on the TV screen. After a short time, they will be logged into iPlayer on the TV.

You can see the names of everyone signed in on your TV on the Select who's watching page.

How will I know who is signed in on my TV?

Each time you launch the app, you'll be asked to select who's watching. When in a profile, the signed-in user’s display name will appear on the top left corner, at the top of the menu.

I don't have the 'Add a user' option

Not all TVs will have the option to add multiple accounts. This is because software and technology vary greatly across different TVs, models and manufacturers, and not all TVs have the same capabilities.

If you can't see the 'Add adult' option, you can either continue with the account that is signed in, or remove that account and sign in as a different user.

How do I sign out of an account on my TV?

To sign out of an account on your TV, head to the 'Select who's watching' page, choose the account you wish to remove and select 'Remove' underneath.

How do I sign out of �鶹�� iPlayer on my TV?

To sign out of your �鶹�� account on the iPlayer TV app:

Open the �鶹�� iPlayer app on your TV, games console or connected TV device
On the 'Select who's watching...' page, scroll to - but don't select - the account you'd like to sign out of
Scroll down to 'Remove' underneath the name and select. Confirm the removal when prompted

When you sign out, the account plus any child profiles attached to it, will be removed. If you sign back in, these will re-appear.

Child profiles can't be removed separately as they are connected to the adult account. To remove child profiles from your account, have a look here: How do I delete a child profile?

Can I sign out remotely?

Yes you can! You'll need to sign into your account on the �鶹�� website and head to your account settings. In the 'Security and privacy' tab, you'll see the option to sign out remotely.

This will sign your account out of all devices. It may take a while to log out and the TV app may look like you're still signed in, but selecting a user will refresh the page and it will confirm that you're signed out.
