How do I set up the lock?

Tap Settings (cog icon on the top right of the homepage) > Parental Controls and then tap Enable parental controls. Then:

Choose and enter a four-digit PIN, then choose and answer a secret question, then tap 'Activate.'
On the next screen, choose where you would like to use Parental Controls on the app:

How do I turn off the lock?

Tap Settings (cog icon on the top right of the homepage) > Parental Controls
Enter your PIN to be taken to the Parental controls menu
Un-tick 'Enable parental controls' to switch off parental controls altogether. You can also choose to have the PIN only for age-restricted programmes, or for switching between profiles.

How can I change the PIN or password?

Tap Settings (cog icon on the top right of the homepage) > Parental Controls > PIN Settings
Enter your four-digit PIN
Tap 'PIN and secret question' and make your required changes
Tap Save

What if I forget my PIN or secret answer?

If you forget your PIN, you can use your secret question to gain access to the parental controls settings in the app. Just tap Settings (cog icon on the top right of the homepage) > Parental Controls > Forgot PIN?

Enter your secret answer then make the changes you'd like. Tap Save when finished.

If you forget your secret answer, choose Forgot PIN? then Forgotten answer? and follow the steps on screen. You can change the lock settings via one of the following methods, depending on the device:

Android or Amazon Fire
Go to Settings > Apps > �鶹�� iPlayer > Storage and select the ‘Clear Data’ or 'Clear Storage' option. This should reset your parental controls, so you can set up a new PIN and secret question/answer.
iOS
You'll need to remove and then reinstall the �鶹�� iPlayer app via the Apple App Store in order to reset parental controls.

With both methods, you will lose any downloaded content in the app.

How do TV parental controls work?

The parental controls set on the iPlayer TV app for smart TVs, games consoles and set-top boxes is specific to that device and not linked to your �鶹�� account or to the mobile/tablet app or website.

How do I set up the lock?

Open the �鶹�� iPlayer app on your TV and head to the menu on the left-hand side. Choose Settings then Parental controls.
Select Parental Controls to head to the set-up screen. Create your PIN or password. Once you've done this, select OK. You'll be asked to confirm that it's correct.
On the next screen, check your details and confirm.

You'll need to remove the parental guidance lock and then set it up again from scratch. To remove the lock if you've forgotten your PIN or secret answer:

Head to Settings and select Parental Controls
The Parental Controls toggle will be switched on (pink with a tick)
On your remote, press right, right, right, right, up, up, up, up (four each way)
The Parental Controls will now be cleared and will show with the toggle switched off.

What are Parental Controls?

Parental controls restrict access to programmes which display a guidance warning to ensure younger audiences can’t access inappropriate content. Setting up a parental PIN or password is the best way to control what your children have access to on �鶹�� iPlayer.

If a programme has been flagged with guidance, it will feature a clear label and a ‘G’ symbol.

On the mobile/tablet app, the label will appear on a bar at the top of the episode.

The parental controls on the mobile/tablet app and website use a four-digit PIN to control access to guidance-labelled content. On the TV app, users and choose either a PIN or password. When parental controls is turned on, you'll be asked to set a PIN or password. You'll need to enter this to view guidance-labelled content.

What are guidance labels?

Guidance labels let viewers know when content may be unsuitable for younger audiences (e.g. violence, sex, drug use or strong language) or when it may be harmful to some viewers (e.g. containing flashing images). Guidance labelling is usually used for television programmes that were broadcast after the TV watershed (9pm).

If your child has signed in to their own children's account, they'll see a different version of the �鶹�� iPlayer homepage. This means your child will only see programmes and images that are suitable for them on the �鶹�� iPlayer homepage.

If a programme has been flagged with parental guidance, it will feature a clear label and a G symbol. Look out for a red G towards the bottom left.

Hit the Play button and, when prompted, click Turn On PG Lock.
Choose and enter a four digit PIN and press Play.

Your PIN is now set. Next time you try to watch something that we've suggested isn't suitable for kids, you'll see a message explaining why, and you'll have to enter your PIN before you watch.

You can also set the lock via the Parental Controls page.

You'll need to make sure cookies are enabled on your browser so that the �鶹�� iPlayer website can remember your parental controls settings. You can find more information about cookies on the Using the �鶹�� website.

How do I turn off the lock?

Click play on any programme with a guidance label, then select the Manage your lock option.
You'll be brought to the Parental Controls page where you can select Turn off PG Lock.
Enter your PIN and select Unlock. All programmes will now be unlocked.

When you want to switch the parental lock back on again, head to the Parental Controls page to manage your lock.

What if I forget my password (or don't remember setting up a lock)?

If you forget your password or PIN or you believe you never set up a lock to begin with, you will need to clear your browser history. If you're not sure how to do this, read the How do I clear the cache? page which explains how to clear your browser history.

How do I change the lock's password or PIN?

To change your lock's details, you will need to delete the cookies from your browser (check the How do I clear the cache? page if you're not sure how to do this), then set up a new parental guidance lock from the Parental Controls page.

YouView

Click General, then Restrictions
Set Restrictions to On
Enter and confirm a four-digit passcode
