Dance Capoeira

Capoeira is a combination of dance, ritual and martial arts. Mauro Giusti Tatanka is working with 麻豆社 Blast to give you the chance to explore this incredible art form.

I started Capoeira in 2001 because I was fascinated by the idea of a martial art that incorporates both music and dance.

Capoeira movement

My journey began when I met my Capoeira master, Contramestre Papa Leguas who is still guiding me today.

Capoeira is a Brazilian Martial Art, and like many other art forms from Brazil, it is influenced by the rich afro-Brazilian culture.

Developed by African slaves in Brazil, it was used as a tool to escape from captivity, but nowadays it has been transformed into a sport.

Capoeira movement

There are two main styles of Capoeira: "Capoeira Angola", which is the closest form to the Capoeira played by the slaves and Capoeira Regional which is much faster.

There is also a type of Capoeira which is different than the styles mentioned above.听 This is sometimes referred to as contemporary Capoeira.听 This includes acrobatic movements you won鈥檛 find in the pure Angola or regional.

Capoeira movement

At 麻豆社 Blast in the Isle of Man I will be teaching the basic elements of Capoeira along with a deep understanding of the culture which brought us movement.

Students will learn body co-ordination and self-expression through the movements of Capoeira.
