Recycling - well I was born and brought up in Jersey, I left in 2007. I am now proud to say I recycle everything in Aberdeenshire. Every house is supplied with a recycling box, everything has to be seperated from each other and we get a general bin collection once every fortnight. To begin with I thought that would be a nightmare, but my wife and I were only saying last week, when we put the bin out for collection, there were only 2 bin bags in it for two weeks worth of rubbish. Just goes to show what we recycle. Tins, cans, all glass, plastics, brown cardboard/white cardboard, clothes, all veg and egg shell waste goes in a bin for composting at home. We do not get this collected but we take it to recycling points all over the place. There's one every couple of miles. You can help yourself to recycle, you don't have to rely on others to collect it, thats just laziness.

i think its helpful that they can get it form your door instead of people driving all the way out somewhere ....

We recycle all the rubbish that we can at Bellozane. It is nothing short of a disgrace that as one of the wealthiest places on earth ( or so our politicians keep telling us!!) that we do not have a door collection facility for recycling!!. well done to St John.

Yes I feel that this is a good idea to collect from the home. In Ireland and Australia bins are provided for re- cycling. lets introduce differet bins to each house hold and incourage our children from a young age to re-cycle.....

We recycle as much as possible by using the new recycling section at Bellozane. But we're fortunate that we have somewhere at home to keep the stiuff, and a car to get us there. We live in St Helier where they don't even collect the glass let alone anything else. The Parish must take a lead in improving recycling facilities.

I would like to recycle at home. Currently I drive to Bellozanne - thus using unnecessary petrol. I think that if there were recycle bins at the parish hall that would be a start.

There is very little provision for recycling in Jersey. I am having difficulties finding out where I can recycle my papers.

Yes, on the doorstep please. We would then need a smaller incinerator, if at all, or has the deal hear already been done? Perhaps that's why the States do not want much recycling! The government is certainly not "Green", that is obvious by the way they collect only mixed waste and are about to put up bus fares. We recycle as much as possible, but going to Bellozane is using a industrial site, not for the average islander, and we have had two punctures there in the last 6 months from nails on the floor, just have a look next time you go. How about a proper recycling centres in the east, west and above town ( the States Farm on La Grande Route de St.Jean would be ideal for a central one), one at Gorey and one in St.Brelades for all items, including garden waste, with glass, plastic bottles and newspaper on the doorstep rounds.

In the UK I used to have my paper, glass, and green waste all collected weekly from my doorstep. I have a massive bag of papers now cos I wont throw them out but I really can't be bothered to take them to the recycling bins as they are now too heavy and I don't have a car since moving here, we need doorstep recycling here so bad!!!

It is a silly question really, of course! I recycle as much as i can anyway but in an island so small with so much money i do not see why this has not come in earlier. I suppose as long as it is not finance industry related then the States are not that bothered.

Get the facts right
A clearer distinction needs to be made here - taking stuff to Bellozane to be burnt is NOT recycling!! Currently the Island does not actually recycle much at all, most of the so called "recycling collections" are just burnt. To "recycle" waste means to collect and treat rubbish to produce useful materials which can be used again!!Jersey is actually much further behind the times than you think in that respect - including residents if people think that taking your waste to Belozanne constitutes recycling!!

I as any other people already recycle, but as we can see from a number of the comments below there are still plenty of people on the island that dont and dont really seem to care, so I think that kurbside collections would be really beneficial, they work in many towns in Endland and they can definitely work here.

Why can't we follow the example of the Uk and make ourselves a much greener island?Why are we so slow in managing such a small island. Lets have proper sorting and collections.

As I do not drive or have any recycling banks near I do not recycle. Having just come back from the mainland each household are given several recycling bins which are then emptied by the local councils on a monthly basis.Until that applies over here unfortunatly no can do as much as I would like to.

I think it would be a fantastic idea. I already go down to bellozanne and recycle most of our rubbish. For a household of three, each week we have but half a bin that is not recycled. Glass plastics, paper, food waste in the compost.

I already recycle. I live on the coast and waste food goes to the birds or the compost heap. I collect newspapers and recycle them. I take old clothes to charity shops or if unwearable send them to a firm to use for wiping and cleaning rags. Anything that can't be recycled in the above ways and can be burned I burn and put the ashes on the garden as long as they are not toxic.

I think that Nikki is a very foolish uneducated person for not even having a slight interest in recycling and what the effects of not doing so will do to the planet - she needs a slap!

Like Nikki I really can't be bothered with the whole recycling thing. However, if things were collected from my doorstep for I recycling then guess I'd give it a go too - so if you want more people to do the whole recycling thing then I guess the mountain has to come to mohammed.

I live in St Helier and would welcome with open arms recycle collection from the doorstep. I don't drive and as such find it difficult to recycle. It's not convinient or easy to carry big black sacks of glass or newspaper around town in search of a suitable bin. In fact I think it's disgusting that a proper recycling scheme isn't in place already in town seeing as so many people and businesses reside there.

I already take my glass and newspaper to recycling banks but would really appreciate it being picked up from my door - especially if they took plastic as well. I live in town and would be prepared to pay 拢10 or even 拢20 more a year...it would probably save me that in petrol not having to drive to the nearest recycling bins.

I already recycle all my newspapers and magazines and would not object to a 拢10.00 increase in Parish Rates if it means that I can recycle more household waste and that the proper bins are provided in order to do so.

St John is not the only parish to have curbside collections. Havre Des Pas have been doing it for well over a year now. We have 5 in our family and it is amazing what we do recycle, 2 large boxes of cardboard and newspapers and about 4 or 5 black sacks of cans and plastics. If you don't want the big new incinerator we ALL need to recycle, as usual Jersey is also slow in doing things, England has been doing this for quite a number of years, so come on get in touch with your constables, deputies and get recycling now.

I do try to recycle but without my own transport it is almost impossible;so the plastic piles up,the paper moulders. Yes,yesand yes. Household collection please!

Couldnt give a damn about recycling to be honest at the moment, but if it was to be collected from my doorstep then I would certainly give it a go.
