Finishing up

Let's sum up what you've done so far:

  • You've done the introduction
  • You've delivered the main information
  • You've got at least one image

Now you need to bring your talk to a finish.

Remember to ask if anyone has
any questions.

If the audience asks questions,
it shows they have been listening
to what you’ve been saying.

key point People may not want to ask you any questions but you can try to encourage them by smiling. If you don’t know the answer to a question just say :
  • 'I'm sorry, I don't know the answer to that - but I'll try and find out.' Or,
  • 'I'm not sure - does anyone else know?'

And finally! Thank the audience for listening to you.

That is the end of this module on effective communications. You have covered the following curriculum objectives:

  • Speak clearly in a way which suits your subject, purpose and situation
  • Keeping to the subject and structuring your talk to help listeners follow what you are saying
  • Use appropriate ways to support your main points
