Level 2 - Tutor's Toolkit - Application of Number: Interpreting Information Index
I wish to look at:
I1 - Obtaining relevent information from different sources
This section concentrates on written material and measuring. It contains explanations on the use of measuring instruments like rulers, protractors and compasses.
I2 - Read and understand graphs, tables, charts and diagrams
This section uses worked examples with questions and solutions to show how data should be interpreted.
I3 - Reading and understanding numbers
This section deals with fractions and percentages and negative numbers and includes worked examples with explanations.
I4 - Estimating amounts and proportions
Students need to know how accurate their calculations are expected to be and when they need to round up.
You will also need to teach students about approximate calculation and rounding to one significant figure. The worked examples show how this is done with multiplication and division sums.
I5 - Reading scales on a range of equipment
Advice on what students need to know about reading from scales. Worked examples show how this works with a scale and a car speedometer dial.
I6 - Make accurate observations
Information on how students can create and use a tally chart.
I7 - Selecting appropriate methods to get results
This section provides details on what students need to know about grouping data and describes the differences between discrete and continuous data. A worked example shows how to deal with the grouping of a number of different heights and describes how to check the frequency.
