France has seen many changes in
the second half of the 20th century, and two fundamental trends in work:
- the shift away from
agriculture which employed 38% of the working population in 1946 but 6.4% in
1990 and
- the rise in unemployment:
1.4% in 1950, 12% in 1995.
There have been major changes in
the structure of the working day with the increase in part-time employment,
shorter hours and job-sharing. |
