| Crib facts | The Cribs are three brothers from Wakefield. The debut eponymous album was THE underrated album of last year: FACT! Ok, so it's not a fact - but I reckon it's true. The new album 'The New Fellas' is out on June 20th. Their next single Mirror Kissers is released on June 13th. |
The Cribs are the sort of group who make you want to jack it all in and form a band. To hell with work, responsibility and commitment 鈥 anyone for smoking, drinking and debauchery? That鈥檚 an excellent idea; now let鈥檚 get wasted! Unfortunately you then remember that you鈥檙e not a Crib; you鈥檙e a nine to fine pen pusher and 鈥榶ou鈥檝e got to be up in a bit so best get some sleep, eh?鈥 It鈥檚 a deflating realisation, but as the chaos that is The Cribs spins across the country; it鈥檚 hard to not get caught up in their slipstream. Easily now one of the best live acts on the circuit, the band expect a similar level of commitment from their audience: 鈥渃ome on Northampton; you should be rockin鈥欌 complains guitarist and co-vocalist Ryan: 鈥渁lthough I don鈥檛 know why I鈥檓 telling you now coz this is a slow one鈥 yeah, slow by Cribs鈥 standards. For other mere mortal rock bands they鈥檇 probably need a sit down after it. But the Soundhaus audience did heed The Cribs advice, or rather cut a deal: you play 鈥楢nother Number鈥 and we鈥檒l go nuts. Ok. The majority of the set was made up of new material, all which sounded great. It鈥檚 not a massive departure from the first album, which is a good thing, but it鈥檚 definitely moved forward in sound, quality and ideas. They鈥檙e also a lot tighter than when I鈥檝e seen them in the past, which is probably down to two months solid touring. By the end of this year The Cribs, Maximo Park and The Rakes will all be sitting proudly at the top of the rock food chain and they鈥檝e all played here in the space of two days. It鈥檚 been one helluva week. |
