OLIVES BLEEDING

A memorial to a young Tyrone man is to be erected in Rivas Vaciamadrid in Central Spain, where he died among the olive groves. Charlie Donnelly joined up with the International Brigades that fought against the fascist General Franco in 1937. His last words, it's reported, were: "even the olives are bleeding". It’s to remember the part which Charlie Donnelly from Killybrackey near Dungannon played in the Spanish Civil War.Ìý Eddie O’Neill, who’s one of the organisers of the memorial, explained the background to Mark Patterson.
