I can recall the court case over the title of the Sex Pistols album and journalist trying to report on it without actually mentioning the ‘B’ word. After the case was settled in favour of the Sex Pistols the ‘B’ word suddenly became very popular indeed. Bollocks, I say.

I was at Techincal Collage on day release in 1977 when a girl punk rocker asked me out on a date when I refused due to the fact that I already had a girl friend she head-butted me much to the amusement of several of her friends that were with herI happened to meet the same girl in a local bar several days later and thought that I would make a joke of the previous encounter only to be hit with her handbag (a heavy chrome kettle)

FRAN MCCLOSKEY PORTRUSH
My first memory of punk was seeing an article in the Daily Mirror about The Sex Pistols and the journo was making out they were some sort of evil weirdos. I was very intrigued and the next thing I know that my mate Marc Ashton was soaping his hair and sticking safety pins in his ears. Well as it turned out we all got into PUNK music and we had a great wee venue here in Portrush called CHESTERS.Bands like The Lurkers, XTC,The Damned, Dr Feelgood, John Cooper Clarke, The Stranglers,The Be-Stiff Tour78, Ian Dury have all graced the stage there. Local bands who were mentioned in YEAR ZERO like The Undertones, Protex, Stiff Little Fingers have all played there and even parts of John T Davis film Shell Shock Rock were filmed there. I know I am at the front of the stage when he was filming The Undertones but so far the film has not been released as a DVD. These days I am still seeing bands but none will ever be as exhilerating and exciting as all those punk bands. AH, those were the days.
