Aesthetica:
A Review of Contemporary Artists is a literary and arts magazine
that promotes new writers, artists and musicians.
Aesthetica
started in 2002 by two York St John students, Cherie Federico and
Dale Donley. The magazine was initially started to promote equality,
creativity and diversity within the literary arts in and around
the York area.
Its
focus and intended audience have since become much wider. At Aesthetica,
we believe everyone in society has a voice and a right for that
voice to be heard.
We
are interested in what people have to say about their lives and
experiences, and strive to make Aesthetica, in all its forms, a
medium for that. We are in the business of opening doors and endorsing
arts for all. We believe in accessibility and an open community
in arts, literature and music.

Aesthetica
magazine is an independent publication. To date, Aesthetica has
promoted over 800 contributors and has featured interviews with
Willy Russell, Roger McGough, Shed Seven's Rick Witter and featured
previously unseen artwork from Stone Roses' guitarist John Squire.
Aesthetica
also released a compilation CD of regional musicians called 're:creation.'
Aesthetica has been called the 'fastest growing literary and arts
magazine in the UK' by Science City York (2005). Currently, Aesthetica
has reached national distribution in the UK through Borders Bookshops.
The
publication was a finalist for the 'Best Community Project Award'
2004 in York and is currently nominated for two more awards in 2005
by The Evening Press. This is a true honour.
In
addition to the magazine, Aesthetica offers a comprehensive and
full editing service to help develop your craft, a creative writing
workshop every second Monday of each month, and hosts live music
and spoken word events that promote new talent from the region.
