Director John Woo has certainly managed that with MI2. Once again Tom Cruise stars as Ethan Hunt. His task on this occasion is to stop a group of terrorists keen on using a deadly chemical virus.

Help comes in the form of an international jewel thief played by Thandie Newton while Scott provides the villain of the piece, Sean Ambrose.

The opening sequence with cliff face action sets the tone for the whole film. This is Bond without Brosnan. Fans of explosions and pyrotechnics will not be disappointed. There are car chases aplenty. MI2 is a Hollywood action movie by numbers.

Cruise is hardly stretched in his role as the hero although his insistence on performing certain stunts shows he is brave (or maybe just foolish).
