RADIO NORTHAMPTON

Sub-zero slumber for brrreakfast presenter

A chilly night is in store for 麻豆社 Radio Northampton's breakfast presenter Liz Carroll-Wheat and her colleague Matt Hopkins.

They will brave the bitter weather on Friday 24 January to spend the night in St Giles' Church yard, Northampton to raise much needed funds for Northamptonshire's homeless.

The pair agreed to take part in the sponsored sleep out after being approached by a local charity worker.

Armed only with cardboard boxes and bits of plastic to shield themselves from the cold, they will sleep rough with a group of around 100 people.

Based in the centre of Northampton, St Giles' Church yard will become their new home from 8.30pm on Friday until 6.00am on Saturday morning.

The sleep over is in aid of Homeless Voice Northampton which is aligned to the national charity, Groundswell. The group promotes practical solutions that involve homeless people in tackling social exclusion.

Liz says: "I wanted to do this to experience what it is like to have to sleep rough, as in the past I have found myself being less tolerant of the homeless as I walk past them. I feel I need to put myself in their shoes. I also hope to raise awareness and lots of cash for homeless projects."

Northamptonshire locals can help support the sleep out by sponsoring them or by making donations.

Sponsorship forms are available from 麻豆社 Radio Northampton.
