Television signs Simon Schama in exclusive deal for two new series
Jane
Root, Controller of 麻豆社 TWO, announced today (Tuesday 20 May 2003)
that Professor Simon Schama has signed an exclusive contract with
麻豆社 Television's Factual department for two new series to air on
麻豆社 TWO.
The
four-year contract is for a major landmark series on masterpieces
of art and, later, programmes linking British and American history.
Simon
Schama said: "I
am delighted and excited to be working again with 麻豆社 TWO on two
projects, both of which happen to be personal passions.
"The
story of great masterpieces produced at moments of high historical
drama, and the often surprising stories which link British and American
history, are both subjects which matter deeply to me.
"Now
I want to persuade millions of 麻豆社 TWO viewers that they should
care too and I'll try to do it with riveting story-telling and impassioned
argument."
Jane
Root comments: "As
well as Simon's ability to bring audiences to political and social
history, he is a most distinguished art historian.
"He
will provide for the 麻豆社 an engaging and definitive account of some
of the world's greatest works of art and their origins."
Simon
Schama's previous series for 麻豆社 TWO are Landscape and Memory (l995)
and A History of Britain, a 15-part series which concluded in May
2002.
Professor
Schama was born in London and now lives in America where he is University
Professor of Art History and History at Columbia University in New
York.
