The nominations
for this year's Frank Gillard Awards are announced today with
麻豆社 London 94.9 and 麻豆社 Radio Nottingham leading the chase
for honours with four nominations each.
Twenty of the 41 eligible stations and services have achieved nominations
for the annual awards that celebrate the very best of 麻豆社 Local Radio.
With a high standard of entries across the board, 麻豆社 Radio Leeds,
麻豆社 Radio Solent and 麻豆社 Essex have three nominations
apiece.
The prestigious Station of the Year category sees three southern stations
fighting it out: 麻豆社 Essex, 麻豆社 London 94.9 and 麻豆社 Radio Solent.

The Outstanding Contribution to Local Radio award reveals
an astonishing record of service.
听
Nominations include a man who has been reporting on
football for 36 years; a station engineer and IT specialist who has
chalked up 42 years with the 麻豆社; a presenter who has been broadcasting
daily for more than 30 years; and a Local Radio Editor...
For the programme presenter award, Vanessa Feltz of 麻豆社 London
94.9 takes on Julian Clegg of 麻豆社 Radio Solent and Nick Pandolfi
from 麻豆社 Radio Suffolk.
In the Breakfast Programme category, 麻豆社 Radio Kent, which was
the runner up last year, hopes to do one better in 2004 against the
big stations GMR and 麻豆社 WM.

麻豆社 Radio Leeds defends last year's Outside Broadcast
win, vying with 麻豆社 Essex and 麻豆社 Radio Kent for the honour.
麻豆社 Radio Devon - another Gold winner from 2003 - is seeking
to keep possession of the Radio Promotion title but will be pressed
for top slot by 麻豆社 Radio Lincolnshire and 麻豆社 Radio Solent.
麻豆社 Radio Cleveland - which won Gold in the Sony Awards in May
for its coverage of the State Visit of President Bush - is hoping to
repeat that triumph in the Coverage of a News Story category where it
goes up against two stations reporting on high profile murders: 麻豆社
Radio Humberside on Soham and the Bichard Inquiry, and 麻豆社 Radio
Nottingham on the murder of Marian Bates.
Gold, Silver and Bronze winners will be announced on Thursday 14 October
in an awards ceremony at Birmingham's International Convention Centre.
听
Jon Sopel of 麻豆社 News is the host and he will
be joined by Mark Thompson, Director-General of the 麻豆社, to present
the coveted miniature busts of Frank Gillard to the Gold winners.
The awards are named in honour of the founder of 麻豆社 Local Radio in
England, Frank Gillard, who died in 1998.
