The Requiem Mass of Pope John Paul II,
Friday 8 April, 8.40-11.30am

The Â鶹Éç will be live in Rome for the funeral of Pope John Paul II with coverage on Â鶹Éç ONE from 8.40am and Â鶹Éç Radio 4 LW from 8.55am.
Ìý
Huw Edwards will be setting the scene on Â鶹Éç ONE and is joined in the studio by the Archbishop of Birmingham, the Most Rev Vincent Nichols, and church historian Professor Eamonn Duffy.

They will be providing commentary and analysis and reflecting on the spiritual significance of this historic ceremony.

In the evening, there will be another opportunity to see some of the key moments of the day's events (Â鶹Éç ONE, 7.30pm).

On Radio 4 LW, Edward Stourton is presenting coverage of the mass.
Ìý
He is joined by the Archbishop of Cardiff, the Most Rev Peter Smith, and the religious commentator Clifford Longley, together with correspondents and guests from around the world.

(Radio 4, 5.43am) will also be live from Rome on the
morning of the funeral, with the Most Rev Vincent Nichols, and Clifford
Longley will be presenting Thought
for the Day (Radio 4, 7.40am).

Religious programming over the weekend will reflect events in Rome and includes a Service of Thanksgiving for the Life of Pope John Paul II from Liverpool's Metropolitan Cathedral (Radio 4, Sunday 10 April, 8.10am).
