The Â鶹Éç has secured television broadcast rights for the first season of the United States comedy series How I Met Your Mother from Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution.

Ìý

The agreement was concluded by George McGhee, Controller of Programme Acquisition for the Â鶹Éç, and Steve Cornish, SVP - Europe for Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution.

Ìý

The 13 by 25 minute series will transmit on Â鶹Éç TWO and Â鶹Éç THREE in 2006.

Ìý

How I Met Your Mother is an ensemble comedy from the point of view of a man looking back on his single life from 20 years in the future, as told to his two teenage children.

Ìý

Ted (Josh Radnor) has a good life. He's a successful young architect living in New York City.

Ìý

Ted's world is turned upside down when his best friends Marshall (Jason Segel) and Lily (Alyson Hannigan) announce their engagement - a scenario Ted had rehearsed with Marshall a million times before but never thought would actually happen.

Ìý

Ted realises it may be time for him to give up the single life and settle down - much to the chagrin of his bar-hopping "wing-man" Barney (Neil Patrick Harris).

Ìý

So begins Ted's search for a wife, a search that leads him to Robin (Cobie Smulders), a beautiful TV reporter.

Ìý

George McGhee said: "We're delighted to have acquired broadcast rights to this innovative and funny series which will be a treat for Â鶹Éç TWO and Â鶹Éç THREE viewers.

Ìý

"I'm sure this distinctive comedy series will be a captivating addition to the Â鶹Éç's comedy portfolio."

Ìý

Steve Cornish said: "How I Met Your Mother is a very charming and unique comedy that we think is perfect for the Â鶹Éç.

Ìý

"We're delighted to be partnered with the Â鶹Éç on the series and are confident it will achieve great success with them."

Ìý

Executive producers are Rob Greenberg, Carter L Bays and Craig Thomas, produced by Twentieth Century Fox Television.
