Jimmy White joins Âé¶¹Éç Sport for World Snooker Championship


Âé¶¹Éç Sport announced today that Jimmy White will join presenters Hazel Irvine and Ray Stubbs in the studio for the first weekend of the World Snooker Championship, starting this Saturday 21 April at 1pm on Âé¶¹Éç One.

In his first year as studio guest, Jimmy will offer his thoughts, comments and insight on the first round matches, as they unfold over the weekend.

Ìý

Jimmy has a long history with the World Snooker Championship, having first competed at The Crucible over 25 years ago and has been placed runner-up six times.

Ìý

On his role, Jimmy said: "I'll be joining Âé¶¹Éç Sport this weekend, for the first round matches of the World Snooker Championship, including Ronnie O'Sullivan's tough draw against Ding Junhui.

Ìý

"It's going to be an exciting tournament, which a number of players have a good chance of winning, and I look forward to bringing the action to viewers from the Âé¶¹Éç studio."

Ìý

Âé¶¹Éç analysts Steve Davis and John Parrott are also up against each other on Saturday, in a repeat of the 1989 Crucible final. The result will see one return to the Âé¶¹Éç studio and the other proceed to the second round.

Ìý

Expert commentary will be delivered by Dennis Taylor, Clive Everton, Willie Thorne, John Virgo, Terry Griffiths and Neal Foulds throughout the championship, which will feature 130 hours of exclusive, television coverage.

Hawk-eye technology will be utilised for the first time in Âé¶¹Éç Sport's television coverage of The World Snooker Championship, providing viewers with a unique perspective of the action on the tables.

Ìý

Digital television viewers will also be able to watch live, uninterrupted snooker from both tables throughout the whole tournament, with Âé¶¹Éçi covering every match, until the end of play, in each session.

Ìý

The Âé¶¹Éç Sport website – bbc.co.uk/sport – will carry all the latest scores and reports from The Crucible, as well as showing uninterrupted live coverage and interviews with the players. Users will also be able to air their views on the snooker message boards.

Ìý

Radio listeners will be able to tune into Âé¶¹Éç Radio Five Live which will carry regular updates and reports of all the action from The Crucible.

Programming details are correct as at 1 April 2007 and may be subject to schedule changes.

Coverage will primarily be on Âé¶¹Éç Two. However, on Saturdays it will commence on Âé¶¹Éç One.

Ìý

To access Âé¶¹Éçi during snooker coverage on Âé¶¹Éç One and Âé¶¹Éç Two, digital viewers will be prompted to be press the RED key. Outside of Âé¶¹Éç One and Âé¶¹Éç Two coverage, viewers will need to press RED or TEXT, and then select SNOOKER INTERACTIVE from the menu.

Freeview viewers may not be able to access the full interactive service at certain times.
