Âé¶¹Éç's first FM radio partnership in Rwanda


The Âé¶¹Éç has secured its first FM partnership in Rwanda with Radio 10 meaning even more listeners can listen to Âé¶¹Éç programmes in FM quality sound.

Radio 10 will broadcast Âé¶¹Éç World Service programming in French, Kinyarwanda, Kirundi and Swahili.

Ìý

Radio 10 will broadcast Âé¶¹Éç Great Lakes weekday news programme Âé¶¹Éç Gahuzamiryango at 16.00 GMT.

Ìý

On Saturdays audiences can listen to Imvo n'imvano at 05.00 GMT.

Ìý

French-speaking audiences can tune into Âé¶¹Éç Afrique's daily news and current affairs programmes, Âé¶¹Éç Matin at 04.30 GMT and Âé¶¹Éç Soir at 18.00 GMT.

Âé¶¹Éç Swahili broadcasts will include its flagship morning programme Amka Na Âé¶¹Éç, news and current affairs programme Dira Ya Dunia and a round-up of the big news stories from across the continent in Leo Afrika.

Tim Cooke, Head of Âé¶¹Éç World Service French and Great Lakes, said: "The Âé¶¹Éç has a special broadcasting history in the Great Lakes region and this new radio partnership with Radio 10 opens up possibilities for further cooperation and growth.

"It also means more choices for audiences wanting to be in the know about developments in their region, across Africa and across the world."

The new partnership with Radio 10 complements the Âé¶¹Éç's already strong FM presence in the country which includes Âé¶¹Éç 93.9 FM in Kigali, Âé¶¹Éç 93.3 FM in Karongi and Âé¶¹Éç 106.1 FM in Butare.

Âé¶¹Éç Great Lakes service – Gahuzamiryango, or "bringing people together" – provides two daily 30-minute programmes in Kinyarwanda/Kirundi for a massive audience in Rwanda, Burundi and neighbouring countries.

Ìý

The popular weekly radio soap opera Urunana has been broadcast on the Âé¶¹Éç Great Lakes service and re-broadcast by Radio Rwanda since 1999. Aimed at improving the sexual and reproductive health of rural women, Urunana openly addresses all topics related to sexual and reproductive health, encouraging discussions around issues considered taboos in the region. Urunana is produced and performed by Health Unlimited Well Women Media Project.

Âé¶¹Éç Afrique is the world's reference radio in francophone Africa and can be heard on FM in a dozen French-speaking African countries including Burkina Faso, Senegal, Mali and DR Congo.

Âé¶¹Éç Swahili broadcasts to an audience of more than 21 million in East and Central Africa. As a multi-media broadcasting service it provides radio and online content to Swahili-speaking audiences throughout Africa and around the world.
