The Politics Show is hosting a debate in Maryport looking at the issues surrounding energy provision and West Cumbria's role in the development of nuclear, wind and wave technology in future years.

West Cumbria's coastline is being marketed as the 'Energy Coast' in a move to attract new developments in nuclear power and renewable energy.

Â鶹Éç presenter Richard Moss will question a panel of 12 experts on the issues this raises for the people who live there.

He said: "West Cumbria will play a leading role in energy provision in the coming years.

"We'll be hearing from those who want Cumbria to be at the forefront of the next generation of nuclear power and from those who say Government policy has been hijacked by the nuclear industry.

"We'll hear from the people who are building wind turbines and from those who say 'no' to more windfarms in the Cumbrian countryside."

The Politics Show will also report from Kirksanton, the Cumbrian village which has been earmarked for a new nuclear power station and where an existing wind farm may have to be demolished to make way for it.

The debate, to be recorded at The Wave Centre in Maryport, will be broadcast in The Politics Show (Â鶹Éç One North East & Cumbria) from 11.00am on Sunday 21 June 2009 and on Â鶹Éç Radio Cumbria from 6.30pm on Monday 22 June.

Â鶹Éç Look North will also report on some of the energy issues facing West Cumbria.
