Â鶹Éç Introducing to showcase new music talent in Carlisle

On Monday (18 April) Â鶹Éç Radio 1 DJ Jen Long announced how Â鶹Éç Introducing will be supporting local music talent from Carlisle with free concerts and a stage at Â鶹Éç Radio 1’s Big Weekend.

Kicking off on 10 May, three gigs across Carlisle will feature a range of unsigned, undiscovered and under-the-radar talent which has been selected by a panel of Â鶹Éç Radio DJs and producers. All of the events will be free and revellers will just need to turn up on the evening.

Alongside the free gigs, Jen also revealed the local talent from Cumbria and the surrounding areas that will complete the line up for this year's Â鶹Éç Introducing stage at Radio 1's Big Weekend, they are:

Saturday 14 May
Birds Vs Planes (Cumbria) / Baron Von Alias (Newcastle) / Fiona Clayton (Cumbria)

Sunday 15 May
Lets Buy Happiness (Newcastle) / Polarsets (Newcastle) / Colt 45 (Cumbria)

These acts will join artists that have featured or will feature on the Â鶹Éç Radio 1 Playlist in the Â鶹Éç Introducing slot. The full line-up can be seen at bbc.co.uk/radio1

Jason Carter, Editor, Â鶹Éç Introducing, says: "Â鶹Éç Introducing is delighted to once again be joining Â鶹Éç Radio 1 at this year's Big Weekend. We have a superb array of brand-new musicians from across the UK taking part in the event, as well as some top class local artists from across the region. Keep a watchful eye out in the future for the Introducing artists on the line up, some who have previously participated at our events, have gone on to great success!"

Jen Long adds: "I'm really excited that Â鶹Éç Radio 1 will be visiting Carlisle and especially that Â鶹Éç Introducing will be able to bring some fantastic new artists from the rest of the UK to the festival, as well as supporting great new bands that already exist in that area. Hopefully I will even inspire some budding musicians there to form a band and take over the world."

Â鶹Éç Introducing is a multi-platform initiative across Â鶹Éç Radio 1, Â鶹Éç 6 Music, Â鶹Éç Radio 1Xtra, Â鶹Éç Asian Network, 40 Â鶹Éç Local Radio stations and bbc.co.uk/introducing – all working together to provide an internal network dedicated to supporting the hottest new talent from across the UK.
