Programme 9
Music and poetry from Wilson Burgess, Robin Laing, Rab Wilson and Violet Jacob.
Wilson Burgess reads us his poem about Burnquarter Wee Still; and the poem is complemented by Robin Laing鈥檚 song, 鈥楢 wee drappie o鈥檛鈥 from his collection of songs about Scotland鈥檚 famous drink on the CD 鈥楾he Water of Life鈥. Ayrshire poet, Rab Wilson, recently visited County Mayo in Ireland. He reads two new poems, inspired by the trip: 鈥楻aftery鈥檚 Choice鈥 and 鈥極n a Famine Road, County Mayo鈥.
Suitable to the time of year, Willie finds a song by Violet Jacob from Angus, who died in 1946. The poem is called 鈥楬alloween鈥 and is sung by Agnes Whiteman from Garvagh with Phyllis Martin and Susie Kelly on harmonies. The song can be found on Agnes鈥 CD, 鈥楶loughing where the Barley Grew鈥. We鈥檝e another song from Robin Laing, this one written by Tom Clelland - 鈥楾he Ghost wi鈥 the squeaky wheel鈥.
