Britain's war against the Taliban in Afghanistan is proving painful; casualties have been heavy and the military is complaining that it does not have enough soldiers or equipment.

Ed Butler is regarded as the architect of British strategy in Afghanistan. He was once on the frontline, commanding British forces in Helmand province, but resigned last year and is now openly critical of what is going on. Ed Butler talks to Jonathan Charles.
