Hayley can’t believe it when her mum, Tricia, turns up in Sheildinch, and tells her that after many years in her unhappy marriage she’s finally left Bill, Hayley’s Dad. When Gordon finds out Tricia is staying at Hayley’s, and that she’s left Bill, a concerned Jack warns him that the truth will out truth – that he’s Hayley’s biological father!

Things go from bad to worse for Gordon when Hayley suggests that Tricia takes a part-time job in the salon and Gordon finds that he’s unable to disappoint Hayley and say ‘no’. Later Tricia tells a relieved Gordon that she won’t be taking the job – but then when she makes a pass at him and he rejects her, she returns to Hayley’s flat in tears. An angry Hayley assumes that Gordon has sexually harassed her mum. So, when they see him in the pub later on Hayley doesn’t hold back. A confused Gordon thinks Hayley is angry because she has found out the truth about him from Tricia, and so admits in front of everyone that he’s her father.

Stunned, Hayley tries to take in what Gordon’s just revealed and locks herself in the flat. Hayley grows suspicious of Tricia’s motives and when Gordon later arrives at the flat, Hayley lets him in and makes him a cup of tea before sitting down to listen to a relieved Gordon explain everything to her.

When Scarlett spots one of the adult literacy class posters and tells Murray how she learned to read only recently, he is keen to have her speak to everyone in the class. A flattered, but nervous, Scarlett agrees. Eileen sees the posters and demands that he re-does them, with her name as the contact instead of his. An annoyed Murray goes round Sheildinch replacing each one. Gina tries to stand up for Eileen, explaining to Murray that she really is a good person and that she’s just been through a lot. Gina decides the best thing to do would be for them all to go out for a drink after work. As the evening progresses Gina goes all out to change Murray’s first impression of Eileen, telling him about how much she has lost and how caring she really is. Murray begins to warm to Eileen.

The next day, Scarlett’s talk at the community centre is a great success. Eileen suggests to Murray that they go for a drink, but when Gina says she will need to find a babysitter, Eileen informs her sister that it’s really just a work thing – leaving her sister feeling a bit left out but happy for Eileen.

An angry Ewan catches Dunny trying to steal his car and warns him to stay away. Ewan visits Lenny and he’s shocked to find the flat freezing and messy: he realises Lenny must be broke. Ewan asks Lydia for a loan, not telling her it’s really for Lenny, then arranges to pay Scarlett to clean the flat whilst Lenny is out. Lydia gives Ewan her bank card and says she’s happy to lend him £200. However, Lenny eventually finds out where Ewan got the money. He is furious with Ewan for going behind his back and storms off.

Dunny heads in to ‘The Café’ where he tries to steal some food, but Lenny steps in to pay for the food, and then buys Dunny something to eat. Ewan is shocked when he sees Lenny and the would-be car thief coming out of the café together, and he tries to explain that this was the lad who tried to nick his car. A dismissive Lenny then takes Dunny home with him to get cleaned up – leaving Ewan feeling stunned and excluded.

Joanne is becoming more and more attached to Eilidh. Ruth is concerned as Joanne’s attentions mean she can’t get near her own daughter. However, Gina makes Ruth feel as if she’s being selfish when she mentions her worry. When Ruth phones her sister asking if she’d like to spend time with Romeo Joanne ignores the call; it seems Joanne would rather stay with Eilidh instead.
