Music from the 麻豆社 Philharmonic. Rossini: Overture (La Cenerentola). Liszt: Totentanz. Bruch: Concerto in E minor, Op 88. Beethoven: Piano Concerto No 4. Elgar: Symphony No 1.

Penny Gore presents a week of programmes focusing on recent performances by the 麻豆社 Philharmonic and the 麻豆社 Scottish Symphony Orchestra.

Today the emphasis is on the 麻豆社 Philharmonic, with pianist Martin Roscoe joining the orchestra in performances of Liszt's Totentanz and Beethoven's 4th Piano Concerto. Then, Bruch's Concerto for clarinet, viola and orchestra, a late work in the composer's canon which makes good use of the tonal similarities between the two solo instruments. To finish, the 麻豆社 Philharmonic perform Elgar's 1st Symphony, which had its premiere in 1908 in Manchester, just up the road from the orchestra's home.

There's a chance to hear the 麻豆社 SSO play Elgar's 2nd Symphony in tomorrow's programme. The 麻豆社 Philharmonic return on Wednesday with a concert live from their home at MediaCity, Salford.
