With Apollo 11 about to land on the moon, the Watts family have finally installed their first telephone at home.
But they little realise how much their lives will change with its arrival.
The phone sits in the hallway, witnessing their activities, listening to the family's secret loves, fears and joys.
There is much excitement at using a house phone for the first time, in the days before mobiles and texts, and when no conversation was private.
