Script

So, I went into the local supermarket to buy a pint of milk and some breakfast cereal, and I came out with a white convertible sports car.听听

Darn those little cards on the wall selling customers鈥 cast-offs. Usually the handwritten cards are offering sofas and kittens and trampolines 鈥 but on the day in question, there it was 鈥揷alling out my name鈥ith a seductive whisper鈥 For sale - white sports convertible鈥he dream machine鈥eckoning me with its curled finger鈥ou know you want to!!

听

You鈥檝e guessed - I bought it.

听

The fact that neither my wife nor myself could get in out, or out of it, with much dignity is neither here nor there.听

The fact that a friend鈥檚 son mentioned that he wondered if the hairdresser had called, when he saw the car parked outside her house鈥s of no concern to anyone.听

And the ribbing from friends and congregation alike 鈥 who found the mid-life crisis purchase a hilarious indication of serious character flaws - matters not a jot鈥

The hood down鈥he wind blowing鈥arvin Gaye hearing it through the grapevine鈥hat did I care? All that long hot summer, I was living the dream!听

If only I had been in a position to buy one of those puppies when I was in my twenties鈥hat fun I would have had鈥

听

Now, in riper years, it might just look silly 鈥 but who cares!

听

I may not wear purple, when I grow old鈥nd an old bloke in a white convertible might make a few people smile鈥ut I鈥檓 glad I came away from the shop that day with more than just a litre of blue top and a packet of porridge.

听

Vroom vroom! Poop poop!

听

Lord, thank you that there is no age restriction on having fun. Give me the grace to let myself have fun today. 听Amen.
