Good morning,
I would consider myself to be a relatively calm and laid back person, I think the聽 people who know me well would agree, but like most of us there are things that frustrate me, and make me cross. Many years ago, I was visiting a large supermarket to return an item that was faulty, I鈥檇 been waiting a long time for someone to come and do something, and when eventually a member of staff came to speak to me, I wasn鈥檛 happy. I was all ready to say, quite firmly, why I thought that the service was unacceptable, and why I as the customer didn鈥檛 deserve to be treated this way. But as I opened my mouth to speak, the shop assistant looked at me and said, 鈥極h hello, I know you, you鈥檙e the lady who spoke at my daughter鈥檚 school carol service last year- you鈥檙e from the local church aren鈥檛 you?鈥 鈥 I was instantly glad that I hadn鈥檛 gone in all guns blazing! It really challenged me to think about how I come across to people, and making sure that my words and actions back up who I claim to be! Now I don鈥檛 think for a moment that being a Christian means that I always have to accept bad service because I don鈥檛 want to speak up, or that there鈥檚 never an occasion to make a complaint or challenge something that鈥檚 happened. But the way I do it is so important, using my words to build up and not knock down, using them to bring glory to God in all I do. Here are words of David, in Psalm 19.
May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer. Amen
