Script

Good morning, Reading over ones old school reports, can be both painful and funny! Mine often said 鈥楽arah would do much better if she talked less to her friends and listened more to the teacher.鈥 That鈥檚 one thing that has never changed. But sometimes people far exceed what their school reports predicted. Charlotte Bronte鈥檚 school report read鈥 She writes indifferently and knows nothing of grammar鈥 (鈥ould you believe it?!); John Lennon鈥檚聽 included 鈥楥ertainly on the road to failure鈥 hopeless, rather a clown in class.鈥 And Albert Einstein鈥檚 declared, 鈥楬e will never amount to anything.鈥 I think we can safely say that they all turned out rather differently!
People do change; as we get older, with differing circumstances and sometimes even from day to day. One day we might say we鈥檙e patient, but the next impatient with everyone we meet. While I鈥檓 on holiday I might be happy and relaxed, but the first day back at work reveals a different story.
In one of my mid-week youth groups we spent a few weeks looking at the character of God. We looked at biblical stories that show us that he is eternal, the creator, glorious, almighty and sovereign. We鈥檝e been reminded that he is always those things, all through history, and at any time of the day and night. Whereas we change, grow and develop throughout our lives, God isn鈥檛 like that - he is consistent. A number of times in the bible we read, 鈥楾he Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love.鈥 These words come from the lips of Moses, Nehemiah, the Psalmists, Joel and Jonah. And that鈥檚 only giving us a small snapshot of what he鈥檚 like. It鈥檚 encouraging to be sure of who someone is, and how they will act.
Heavenly Father, thank you that you are the same yesterday, today and forever. Amen.
