As middle-aged spa doctor Emil Graesler comes to terms with his sister's suicide, he meets the pure spirited Sabine Schleheim and imagines she could make the perfect wife.

But just as he is decided where to take the relationship, a chance encounter with a coquettish shop girl pushes his life in a different direction altogether.
